About the Author
Edie Greene is professor and chair of the Department of Psychology at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, where she also serves as Director of the Graduate Concentration in Psychology and Law. Her research applies principles of cognitive and social psychology to the legal system and focuses on decision making by judges, juries, attorneys, and witnesses; public perceptions of laws and laws' impact; and legal issues relevant to older adults. She serves as an expert witness on jury decision making and eyewitness reliability. A former president of the American Psychology-Law Society, she received the Society's 2008 Award for Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring in Psychology and Law.

Kirk Heilbrun is currently a professor in the Department of Psychology, Drexel University. His current research focuses on juvenile and adult offenders, legal decision-making, and the evaluation and interventions associated with such decision-making. He is the Co-Director of the Pennsylvania Mental Health and Justice Center of Excellence, having previously served as president of both the American Psychology-Law Psychology/APA Division 41, and the American Board of Forensic Psychology. He received the 2004 Distinguished Contributions to Forensic Psychology award and the 2008 Beth Clark Distinguished Service Contribution Award from the American Academy of Forensic Psychology.

Just What I Was Looking For!

So I've had this book in my wish-list for a while. I knew I wanted it, but I given the price I kept putting it off. I finally got it and I really wish I'd bitten the bullet months ago. I've been working on my masters in forensic psychology, and there are so many ways this text could be useful, especially for those like myself who do not have an undergrad degree in criminal justice or the like. Thorough, and well organized, this book examines theories, cases, standards, and the cases that showcase these elements. Whether you are trying to do a case conceptualization or understand more about legal standards and precedence, this book can help. It even takes a look at HBO's Dexter to compare fictional and realistic psychopaths!

This is a great textbook. It is interesting, engaging, and easy to read. I am using it for a 370 Psych and Law, and while the flaws in the United State's legal system, the book is a great compliment to the class.

About the Author

Mark Stavish (Pennsylvania) has been a long-time student of esotericism and is a frequent lecturer on ancient occult knowledge. Founder of the Institute for Hermetic Studies, he is the author of numerous articles on Western esotericism. In 2001 he established the Louis Claude de St. Martin Fund, a non-profit dedicated to advancing the study and practice of Western Esotericism. He has also served as a consultant to print and broadcast media and several documentaries. He holds undergraduate degrees in Theology and Communications and a Master's in Counseling.

A Future Classic

The Path of Alchemy - Energetic Healing and the World of Natural Magic by Mark Stavish is simply the finest book on practical alchemy that I have ever read. While focusing on introductory material and plant work, or spagyrics, it has enough meaty stuff for everyone. There is a fascinating discussion of the role of homeopathy in alchemy; extensive meditations and practices to link laboratory work (Labora) with inner work (Ora); initiation and the Tree of Life via alchemy; and some good background material on alchemy in the 20th Century. However, even the appendices are juicy in their description of the Tarot and the Alchemical process; the famed Longevity Tea of the Comte de St-Germain, similar to the confirmed recipe found in the long out of print, and very valuable biography on St. Germain by Jean Overton Fuller, and a fascinating description of the Flamel Path, of Nicholas and Pernelle Flamel, made famous in the first Harry Potter book, "The Sorcerer's Stone". If you are going to read just one book on alchemy this year, or ever, I suggest "The Path of Alchemy".

P.S. Speaking as someone with next to no background in the Art, Mark Stavish has delivered a user friendly manual that renders the most obscure and complex material in plain language. However, this does not imply that the work is simplistic. As the Alchemists say, it requires both prayer and labor, "ora et labora".

Disillusioning upon close inspection

This is an engaging, entertaining book, very accessible and a pleasure to read. This, unfortunately, functions as a seductive allurement to misleading or incomplete laboratory alchemy instructions. I was willing to overlook certain odd techniques such as using sea salt as the basis for a plant stone (why would you do this? why use an animal salt as a substitute for a plant salt? the seed must be planted in its corresponding womb in order to grow and become an alchemical child, so that's like trying to mate an octopus with an orchid) or doing the cohobation of the spagyric tincture one pinch at a time (this would probably work, but it's more convenient to cohobate all at once and then filter the result after they have been well-mixed), but the section on Ens Melissa really got my goat.

It's so incorrect and incomplete that someone following these instructions would waste a lot of energy creating a poison. The deliquescence of potassium carbonate is not "angel water," it was called "oil of tartar per deliquiem" - its distillate is angel water. You should use the oil of tartar. The melissa must be removed from the oil of tartar before the alcohol is added. The alcohol must be 95% pure ethanol, or it will not separate, and then your solution will be half-lye and undrinkable!

Anyway, I really wanted to like this book, but considering the trouble it takes to make the deliquescence I was taken aback that the rest of the instructions for creating the Ens were slapdash.

The best of all possible beginnings

This book is a true gem. Before reading it I had little interest in laboratory alchemy and while I still have little interest in the path of mineral alchemy, my interest was more than just a little piqued by this book.

Plant Alchemy or spagyria is the application of alchemical theory to herbal products. By breaking up the plant into it's "Mercury" (alcohol product), "Sulfur" (essential volatile oils) and "Salt" (the white/gray ash left over from a slow, low temperature burn) these three principles are then recombined in various ways (even producing a plant "stone") to enhance and purify the occult, energetic properties of the plant.

The true value of this book is in the author's ability to make the work seem so possible, even easy. Mr. Stavish also has the courage to admit that he believes that plant alchemy can be more than just a healing art but also has the potential to be an initiatory path in and of itself (a claim usually reserved for the path of laboratory mineral alchemy). I agree with him with the caveat that a strong energetic bond must first be forged with the very plant whose product is being worked upon. The practice of "dieting" a plant as practiced in some South American shamanic traditions would seem to be a useful practice as a preliminary to such laboratory work (see Plant Shamanism by Heaven and Charing).

The only criticism I have for this book is that it would seem to make it all look too easy. In fact I would prefer to have more guidance in the actual temperatures at which to heat the product at various stages and for how long to expect each stage to take. I would also have liked to learn more about the distillation processes as the technique Mr. Stavish goes into is only for those on a shoe string budget. However, as the title of my review states, this book is the best of all possible beginnings.

Other sources to study are the works of Junius Manifred and the works of Jean DuBuis whose works expand upon and fill in the gaps of this brilliant primer.

About the Author

Alastair Reynolds was born in Barry, South Wales, and studied at Newcastle and St. Andrew's Universities to ultimately earn a PhD in astronomy. A former astrophysicist for the European Space Agency, he lives in the Netherlands, near Leiden. He is now writing full time.

Clare Corbett studied at the Welsh College of Music and Drama. After winning the Carlton Hobbs audition she was chosen to be on BBC Radio. After leaving BBC she went on to narrate several children's books, including Over the Moon, I Rule Dogsbottom School, and Boy Beware. Recently she has transitioned into reading young adult novels, including many installments in the Doctor Who series.

Reynolds is back, thank God.

I was meh about his "Poseidons Children" trilogy, but "Revenger" is like steampunk "Revelation Space" and I loved it.

Adrana and Arafura Ness are sisters and when the precocious and disaffected Adrana formulates a plan to escape what she sees as their cloistered life on Mazarile, she drags into Arafuna into the adventure.

The setting is 'elsewhere' in the universe where a million little worldlets, most with what seem to be black holes in their cores generating gravity, orbit - or not, that aspect wasn't clear to me - a dying sun. It could be the future, it could the past but the main population is human with a smattering of alien races to spice things up and some robots for menial tasks. There have been a succession of civilizations, each of which has left remnants behind, including the fact that many of the worldlets are hidden by energy barriers that power up and down on irregular cycles. Predicting when these 'baubles' are accessible and then plundering the treasures that remain is a common way of life for the crews of various ships that ply the spaces between the worlds. The fact that those worlds are weeks apart and that the ships use solar sails for propulsion only adds to the claustrophobic nature of the novel, both in physical space and psychological impact.

Reynolds' milieu includes high-tech artifacts that are essentially magic to the current generation, and it is Adrana's and Arafura's ability as Sympathetic's that make them attractive new recruits for Captain Rackamore, a ship owner looking for a new "Bone Reader" to complement his crew. The Bones are left behind communications gear that humans of a certain age can interface with, though the message protocol is decidedly vague so Bone Readers apply a degree of interpretation to whatever is coming in over the wire.

Arafura - or "Fura Ness" as she proudly declares herself - is the protagonist of "Revenger" and the story is told first person from her point of view. It is a story of adventure, and personal discovery, and revenge and redemption, and I felt that Fura carries the spark of Reynolds' excellent character Ilia Volyova from "Revelation Space". That is no bad thing because, like Ilia, Fura is a well rounded character with the mettle to do what needs to be done and sufficient empathy to distress over the very same.

Now I do have to say that the opening sequence is gentle compared to what follows, and it might suggest a certain YA direction to the book. Don't be mislead, this is adult sci-fi with moral ambiguities, sudden and graphic violence, and subtle curves of plot that zing around later to hook you.

Simply put, if you enjoyed early Reynolds then I suspect you will enjoy "Revenger". It is complicated, has lots of interesting characters - and many of them die, gotta appreciate an author who is comfortable with that - logically builds to a climax and closes out as a single story...though includes potential for a sequel or two if need be. And I hope there is a sequel because unlike the star spanning adventures of the Akinya family in Reynolds previous run of novels, I found this tightly bound universe compelling.

Highly entertaining semi-YA-style yarn

Revenger is less dark and intense than Reynolds' famous Revelation Space books, yet that is not necessarily a bad thing - it is an adventure story with a teenage protagonist that is in essence a far future variant of treasure-hunt stories complete with pirates.
Reynolds sets the scene wonderfully - we are in a far future, so far that several times civilisations have crumbled and rise again. Reynolds does this more believably than many other genre writers. The novel has good attention to the smaller interpersonal details as well. Of note is that his prose is more refined, and with much better dialogue, than in his powerful early books which sometimes got bogged down in detailed technical exposition.
Having a teenage protagonist who undergoes a character transformation, and written in the first person, it seems almost like a YA novel, and though interested teens should like it, it does not feel like a YA novel with the typical tropes. Hence my review heading: semi-YA-style. I recommend it to space opera SF lovers of all ages.
It is a standalone novel, yet the backdrop is rich enough for more stories. I would love to see Furia and Prozor return for another adventure.

Not a Typical Alastair Reynolds Book, But Fun, Imaginative and a Good Read

An outstanding Alastair Reynolds book that is rather unlike his other volumes. In those novels that left some people disappointed after becoming big fans of Reynolds, I found the biggest lacking points were character development and overall narrative. Revenger fixes those points and more, resulting in a novel that is far more character driven, personal and involved.

It is unlike Reynolds' other novels because I have never found his characters, even the best and most interesting ones, to be particularly understandable or deep. They were mysterious and engaging but I never really felt I knew, understood or could relate to them. It is completely the opposite in this book. The characters are very engaging. They take you with them on their struggles, journeys, losses and wins. It is nice, but does lose some of the feeling that you are in an otherworldly cold, dark future that the odd impersonality leant to the characters in Reynolds other books.

The story line also has a nice arc and sequence. While isolated events are often surprising and fun, the overall plot line can probably be guessed pretty early on. That is also quite different than Reynolds' other works, which often involve ideas so fantastic that it is hard to put them into anything that could resemble a predictable pattern - their motives, reactions and goals might be unguessable. For better or for worse Reynolds' endings in his other books, while unpredictable, could also at times be head scratchers. In Revenger it is much more regular and sensible and still quite fun.

My guess is that Reynolds (under his own volition or at his publisher's insistence) got some heaving editing done on his work to make it more palatable to a general audience. The result is something quite good, but not what one would expect from Reynolds, even in his best prior works. It is imaginative, dark and intriguing, but missing that eerie uncertainty that was previously present. All in all it is definitely worth a read but if this is the only type of work Reynolds intends to publish in the future rather than his wildly speculative and unhinged space dramas, I would be disappointed.

A scam filled with misspellings, bad grammar usage and typos.

What a letdown!! I must remember that in this day and age, ANYONE can write and publish a book! This "thing" reads like a grade school essay that received a grade of D. It is just a collection of a few simple ideas that have been around forever! On top of that, bad punctuation, language usage and typos make it impossible to apply the author's elementary techniques to his own work! Another thing.... In this age of technological innovation, there is NO reason for a written work to contain misspelled words. Even phones have spell check. It is obvious that the author slapped this together to make a few bucks! He/she does not know the topic nor do they care if the public gains improvement or not. Those star ratings are a scam! I want my money back!! Shopper, be wise and save yours!

Mr. Collins does a great job in this book. He covers all the basic topics of reading comprehension, and even learning comprehension, period. Lots of good information. The material is organized in a easily to digest way. A lot of good reminders too. Worth checking out, and using as a reference guide. The thing about information like this is that its easy to understand and take in at first, but the key is remembering to implement them.

Great Nursing School Book

I had to purchase this book for Nursing school. The price was best on Amazon vs other places. The book was good for what we used it for - we had to study it in it's entirety over a 4 week period - so I used this book and it's coordinating website to learn medical terms. We had to lean it very fast, which I wouldn't recommend to anyone, but I made an "A" on all my tests each week! It is definitely a book I will use again and again for reference.

I like how each chapter reviews learned terms from previous chapters - repetitiveness helps me learn things better. The book starts off by teaching you basic "root" words in the first few chapters and then moves on to explore a new medical field with each new chapter (example: Oncology, Urology, Neurology, etc.) and terms that would most likely be seen with each. Plus it contains plenty of written exercises to practice putting terms together or being able to recognize terms in the medical field by breaking down their "root" words. Overall, I think this was a good purchase (even if it was required reading for our school).

Was cheap for a text book and it was exactly the one I needed. It had some writing in it but it was answers to some of the questions. (Not complaining )
The layout of this book was super easy to read and super easy to work with with the program I'm using to take this class.
The free shipping that came with me buying this book was wonderful too.

When I bought this book, I was brand new in the medical world. I hadn't a single clue about any of terms associated with health care. However, after taking the class associated with this book, I feel immensely more confident in my ability to use medical terminology on a daily basis. This book is essentially teaching another language. Although, I am not fluent in this new language, this book definitely gave me a solid foundation to build upon.

Want to be a certified tech? You need this

I bought this to help prepare for the EETC test. It's one of the recommended texts. It's also a prep tool for the Briggs & Stratton certification test. If you're the curious type who likes to know all (and I do mean all) the nitty gritty details behind how and why small engines work, this is a great book. It contains detailed information about the various types of engines (including both two-stroke and four-stroke and multiple cylinder engines) a tech might encounter and covers troubleshooting and failure analysis extensively. There is a section on engine application and selection in the event you need to replace the original engine on a piece of equipment. A Windows-compatible CD-ROM is included but it wasn't that useful to me since it didn't have much content and most of it seemed overly simple. The workbook is helpful as a review, but you really need the answer key for it to be useful. If all you want to know is how to fix small engines, you can find less expensive books to use as a reference.

You know when you squirt a little carb cleaner into one hole in the carburetor and it comes shooting out from a totally unexpected place? This book explains what all those little passages are and how they make the carburetor work better. This book has really good diagrams and pictures to help explain everything.

Great textbook. Starts out simple then builds from there. I did the workbook first. Reviewed the completed questions. Then I read the chapter with the new understanding I gained from doing the WB first. Last I received the class lecture. I had an understanding of what the teacher was talking about because of this book and workbook. I knew nothing about small engines before studying this book. Bruce Radcliff obviously cares about teaching and he is good at it. I bought this book from the college bookstore. It helped me so much, I decided to review it on Amazon. Thank you Amazon for giving me this opportunity.

Very narrow minded support forTrump

I am a very conservative Christian whose choice for GOP presidential candidate would have been Mike Huckabee, an intelligent, well-spoken leader with respect for all people, even those he strongly disagrees with. What are Americans thinking? Choosing a president should not be a divisive
process. We should chose a person of outstanding character and sound judgement that all Americans can admire and be proud to support, even though we might not agree with every policy.

Good Insight Into Dealmaker, Quick, Easy Read. Falls Short of Showing Why Trump Will be Elected President

Target Audience/Genre: This book is targeted to persuade politically-minded activists to support Donald Trump in his quest to become President.

What was the Amazon Rank on the date this review was published? 102.410.

Is this a book that I can read without having to read others first? Yes.

Are there a lot of typos/misspellings, grammatical errors or other editing failures? No.

Is this a fast, easy read or is it more of a leisure read? Yes, very fast.

What sort of language does this writer use to amplify the points made? Plain English. No profanities.

My biggest pleasure or disappointment? Although it does a good job explaining the history of Donald Trump, especially in regards to his early efforts that caught the eye of former First Lady Pat Nixon, it does not well articulate why Donald Trump will be elected President. The one point the author makes, regarding at attempt by others to derail Trump, does indeed resonate. It is just that, by itself, it does not make the point.

Aside from failing to make the point implied by the title, this is an excellent article worth reading by borrowing through Kindle Unlimited. The price is a bit steep, but, for some it is worth the price. Myself, I love KU.

Donald J. Trump was not taken seriously by large segments of people when he first entered the running for president. His announcement speech was polarizing, insensitive to many people’s sensibilities, and as some would say an all round disaster. There were rumors that although he had a large crowd at his presidential-campaign announcement, many of the people who were in attendance were paid actors who had been promised $ 50 to act like enthusiastic fans, claims that Trump and his team vehemently denied.

Despite all the negativity that seems to surround ‘The Donald’, he always seems to come out on top, and his never-give-up attitude has led to him being by far the only competition that the Democratic party candidates have from the Republican side. The fact that his approval rating is so high means that should the American people go to the polls today, not only will he be a clear winner for the GOP, but he may also be the only person that can challenge Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders for the Presidency.

The best example to give to show just how Trump can turn a bad situation into a good one is to give an example of what happened in the aftermath of him giving out Senator Lindsey Graham’s phone number.

After the incident, the online publication Gawker thought it would also get one up on Trump by giving out HIS personal phone number. However, instead of doing what Graham did and destroying the phone, he used the situation to his advantage and recorded a message that actually helped his campaign, and sent callers to either his website or his twitter page. Thismove not only gave him more presence on the internet, it actually swayed some of Graham’s supporters towards him. In fact, Graham’s numbers dropped so low that by December 22 he had dropped out of the presidential race.

This not only shows the power that Donald Trump has in the Republican party, it also goes to show how much he can sway people in his direction…

Bottom Line:

Thoroughly readable and does give some valuable insight into Dealmaker Donald Trump. Worth your time, but best read using Kindle Unlimited.

What Does a Liar Look Like ?

It is so refreshing to read the truth. It is almost impossible to get truth from our media. Some of the things Dick reports I have already known. But it takes on more oomph coming from Dick Morris, who worked closely with the Clintons years ago. He knows more about them than others , and this alone must frustrate the Clinton Machine . Dick tells us a lot about Hillary, and her deviant lifestyle. Reading these and other things about Hillary ought to make a normal person shudder to think of her as our next president. "Read it and Weep", as the old saying goes. To look back into her life and not realizing how she had been lying and stealing from us during those years is a sad, sad journey. Hillary has a very dark, selfish and deceitful soul. May God Almighty keep her away from the Oval Office. This book is desperately needed for all who love America !!
